Forest Trek 2011

Body Basix Fitcamp Embraces all things fitness, wellness and health. So when we got word of the Forestry Department's Inaugural Hike to Holywell to plant trees, getting on board was a no-brainer. Not only was this about getting some exercise in, but also enjoying the beauty that is Jamaica's outdoor plains, having fun with friends and playing our part in rebuilding our forests. Win, Win, Win!

With the exception of a later than expected start, our journey began with a 45 minute drive through Gordon Town and Irish Town. If it weren't for motion sickness, it was long enough to catch a quick nap. But with excitement surrounding  what lied ahead, there was non stop chatter and laughter so much so that you couldn't tell that most people on board the bus were newly acquainted. Perfect way to get a hike off the ground!

Once we got to our starting point, our guides gave us hiking instructions, do's and don'ts. We were lucky enough to have a guide who knew the trail plus had information in spades about different plants, trees and flowers we passed along the way. Our group of hikers were a fun loving bunch, filled with antics, jokes and not to mention the singing! It made the hike through mud, uphill, downhill and along narrow paths seem short and not nearly as harrowing as some people imagined it would be. And once we got to our destination, we got our very own spuds to plant. The 'box lunch' food they fed us brought back memories of high school lunches while the view and shady gazebo/trees provided a beautiful and relaxing backdrop to a fabulous afternoon nap or lyme. Overall we'd say this was a great event with great people for a great cause and one Body Basix Fitcamp will participate in for years to come.***
